Two People Arrested On Multiple Felony Charges In Anderson.

(Anderson, Indiana) On Thursday, June 2, 2022, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Trooper Michael Garcia of the Indiana State Police Pendleton District was patrolling in the Anderson, Indiana area near Columbus Avenue and 53rd Street. Garcia observed a black 2015 Chevrolet Equinox that had expired plates and initiated a traffic stop.

After speaking with the operator, Trooper Garcia observed identifiers of criminal activity and requested additional officers. Garcia identified the front-seat passenger as Rachael R. Ellis, 40, of Anderson, and a rear-seat passenger who identified himself with a false name. After further investigation, it was determined that his real identity was Justin Alfred Haynie, 37, also of Anderson.

Anderson Police Department K-9 Officer Joseph Todd, Officer William Moss along with Trooper Jason Girt arrived to assist. Officer Todd and his K-9 partner Haris conducted an open-air sniff of the Equinox. Haris alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Upon a subsequent search of the vehicle and occupants, officers found approximately one gram of methamphetamine, and various pills suspected to be Fentanyl.

After discovering Haynie's real identity, it was determined that he had active warrants from Marion County for possession of methamphetamine and operating while intoxicated. As Trooper Garcia handcuffed Haynie, he resisted arrest and fled on foot. Garcia gave chase and tackled Haynie to the ground where he continued to resist arrest. After giving multiple verbal commands, Trooper Girt deployed his department-issued taser to gain compliance from Haynie, and he was taken into custody without further incident. Haynie did not display any injuries, however, was taken to St. Vincent Hospital for medical clearance before being transported to Madison County Jail.
