On the morning of Sunday, July 31, 2022, at around 2 a.m. Officer Noah Shahnavaz conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on State Road 37. Before the officer could exit his patrol car, the driver of the stopped vehicle exited his vehicle and shot through the windshield of the police car, striking the officer multiple times in the face/neck. The accused shooter then walked to the driver's side of the police car and continued to fire into the police car at the officer.
Officer Shahnavaz was ambushed so quickly that he did not have time to unholster his service weapon to return fire. The accused left the scene and eventually led authorities in Hamilton County on a high-speed pursuit. Those officers used a tire deflation device and twice did a PIT maneuver. The first PIT maneuver was not successful however the second PIT maneuver caused the accused killer to wreck his car, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Multiple weapons and ammo were found in the accused killer's car. The accused should have never had any firearms in his possession due to his violent past record. In 2006 he fired at officers in Marion County.
