BREAKING NEWS: Parents of Anderson Community School System Voice Concerns

1:58 AM 11/2/2021

Elephant in the room is not quiet

"The elephant in the room" as many parents call it. What happens if they call off again? Since Monday evening, there has been quite a bit of chatter across social media about the ongoing contract issues between the Anderson Community School System and the teachers. As we mentioned in the previous post, the argument was if the current proposal on the table is worth accepting but a valid argument has been shown that it could be a step backward for the teachers. Teachers have been told a 33% increase in insurance premiums is happening. The other side of the argument wonders where is the money going to come from to pay for it, and other commitments. Teachers are frustrated as many of them are working secondary jobs to cover the bills. It has not been an easy time for anyone, and they did not receive any funds outside a stipend bonus for getting vaccinated. Many school systems surrounding our area have already deployed additional funding to teachers that worked through the pandemic.

Parents Raise Concerns Across Social Media

These images were pulled from a public post on Facebook. Parents are speaking up about the quality of education the children will receive in this setting. Many worries about I.E.P. students, and school lunch programs have been expressed, and others are irritated about the burden the e-learning days are putting on their work schedules. With many single-parent households, the issue can become crippling.

More to come...

We discovered this past midnight, and have not had a chance to ask the school system what their reply is. It should also be remembered that para staff, (the one-on-one support educators ) and support staff, such as attendance secretaries and nurse-aids are not teachers. Parents with children on an I.E.P. should take special attention to this.
